Have Your Cake and Eat it tooJuly 27, 2010

After this crazy adventurous weekend, my body was craving a luxurious day of being pampered. I have always loved spas for their soothing aromatherapy, cozy robes, and lemon water. But unfortunately my financial sensibility wasn’t so excited about the idea.

Since I can be rather stubborn, I came to a happy conclusion to how I could have my cake and eat it too. I decided to whip up my own spa at home. I rose early, enjoyed a glass of cold ice water with lemon, and put together an indulgent body scrub recipe using ingredients from my kitchen pantry.

start by pouring some sugar into a bowl. 1/4 of a cup should be plenty

Pour in about a tablespoon of coconut oil. If you don't have coconut oil in your cabinets, try using olive oil or even plain vegetable oil

Take some fresh basil. I got this from my counter top herb garden. If you don't have basil, try some fresh mint or even rosemary from your spice cabinet.

Use your hands to mix it altogether for a minute or two

Wash your face with your regular cleanser, then, while it is still moist with water, gently apply the scrub using small circular motions. Inhale the yummy smell and take your time to enjoy the experience

The hands and any other part of your body will love this delicious scrub.

Keep in mind that this recipe serves best as a dry skin exfoliant. You surely won’t need face lotion even after you rinse this off. But you may want to try fresh-squeezed lemon instead of coconut oil if your skin is oily. Either way you experiment, have fun and enjoy!
