Material GirlAugust 25, 2010

There are few things I am guilty of in this world, and one of them is shopping. But when considering all the alternative vices out there, I think I’m a pretty lucky person to get stuck with a simple retail fixation.

There are different categories to this love (coats, home decor, running shoes, jeans), and my adoration for each ebbs and flows according to where I am in life. Since I am currently harboring an addiction to yoga, it is yoga wear and all of its (completely unnecessary) accessories that have me swooning every time I walk into Lululemon, or pull up Shakti Activewear online.

Luckily I have controlled myself by using a rewards system as an excuse to buy from my favorite outfitters. Coming back into the studio after a long hiatus = new pair of shorts, finally nailing a pose that took me 2 years to master = new water bottle. This may seem silly, but as I mentioned earlier, considering the alternative, I think it’s worked out well.

This bag is one of my favorite rewards, but not from my own wacky little system. It was a gift from my boyfriend after living together for a year. It was his way of supporting my exercise schedule even though it means time away from him. For me it’s a proud reminder to keep taking care of my spirit and body through exercise, even when there are sometimes much more enticing things to do with my time.

Nice loops to hold my dirty mat after class

cute side pocket for my cell phone

My favorite part is the adorable striped inner lining

And the key pocket? Perfect.

Do you have a rewards system for your workout-of-choice? Maybe a manicure, or dessert, or a good book from the library. I’m curious if I’m the only one out there with this odd little method of motivation.

    I LOVE THAT BAG!!!

I haven’t been able to shop much lately, and I miss is so dearly. I am a coat maven too…I like to have like 5 coats for winter…I actually need a new one, mine are kinds ratty now. I love shoes, and jeans to!!

My reward for myself is a massage!! Or a mani-pedi. I don’t do it for workouts though, I don’t even have that mindset…but its a good thing to use with kids someday I think! NOT FOOD though! I do it more when I feel I need to, or I deserve it because I worked hard in general…but that’s good, i am going to start rewarding myself more for a great workout…haha, I would be super poor

That’s true and funny! If I rewarded myself a lot I’d be poor too!

It’s SO hard not to want EVERYTHING at Lululemon, isn’t it?! Oh my my my I love that store :)

Plus, with the very-nearly-happening possibility of TT in the spring, it’s bad because I can find myself justifying more purchases ha!

Good thing I haven’t walked in in awhile :)

Hope you enjoy the new bag (seems like it’d be impossible not to!) and lovin’ your posts!

I adore that bag! I have a problem with gym bags in that the nicest ones are all shoulder bags. I have problems with my shoulders and do better with rucksacks. That one is so pretty I think I could make an exception. I am also a material girl!

If I were going to teacher training in the spring it would be a wrap! Lululemon would have no inventory left! Nothing like a good excuse to shop;)

The straps are pretty comfy on this one Jo – but if I could find a good rucksack I’m sure I’d find an excuse to add it into my yoga accessory rotation;)

Wow- That bag is hot! Thanks for sharing! I’ve always had a hard time finding healthy ways to reward myself for working so hard. Your ideas are very inspiring! Love the site!!

That’s a lovely bag! Maybe if I had something like that I’ll be a little more motivated to hit the gym!
I don’t really have a reward system. I probably should to help me cut back on my spending! Might have to steal one or two lines from you ;)

Steal away! It really does help my budget a ton…
