Flop FridaySeptember 24, 2010

I always wondered what it would be like to do one of those neat obstacle course workouts that fitness and fashion magazines like “Shape” and “Marie Claire” feature once in while. It always has some perfect model doing lunges on a park bench or frog jumping in the middle on the corner of a busy intersection. Call me crazy, but I basically wanted to see what it would feel like from a social standpoint. Would it be embarrassing to do such odd moves out in public?

Ok let's start with a lunge. Easy enough.

A kick lunge. Not bad.

But wait. Is this thing even on?

Why does it only work if I'm like, 2 feet in front of the camera?

Many more attempts to do things like frog jumps and push-ups ensued until...

Maybe if I do a yoga pose instead of plyometrics, it'll work.

Okay, so maybe a few things got in my way on this MOVE adventure. First off, who wears TOMS to do lunges and squats?

Secondly, who chooses a park littered with beer cans,

And broken mix CDs to document a fitness challenge?

Apparently I need some more practice at this whole blogging thing. I promise to still document a magazine workout in public, but for today, we’ll categorize this one as a flop. Off to yoga.

QUESTION:
Do you ever get so frustrated with your electronic equipment that you at least fantasize about throwing it out of a window?

That is funny. I think my current yoga prowess could be labled as comedy. At least we are having fun!

  • http://www.missfitbliss.com joslyn

Yes, you’re right La. If we can’t make fun of ourselves, then what’s the point?

  • http://asideofsimple.wordpress.com Natalia – a side of simple

I don’t think I have the guts to do such a workout in public. Bravo to you!

  • Jamila

I feel ya Jos! My iPhone has asked for it on a number of occasions! But on another note I always wondered who tagged along with you on your outside adventures, little did I know it was your trusty (or not so trusty) high tech camera. More power to ya sister!

  • http://www.missfitbliss.com joslyn

    Thanks Natalia!

  • http://www.missfitbliss.com joslyn

Jam I thought the camera was high-tech too! It does a great job but my remote sucks:)

  • http://crispandverdant.wordpress.com Danielle

Good for you for being bold and willing to have fun! Hurrah!

On a side note, what’s up with people who litter? I wish that the “litter police” would jump out of the woods and surprise/scare them at the time of littering. That would be awesome.

  • Lively or Not

Absolutely – and that feeling usually foreshadows two or three days of backpacking bliss without any electronics save my trusty GPS. Great blog, by the way – wish I had more time to keep up with it. Let me know next time you’re back in Atlanta.

  • http://www.missfitbliss.com joslyn

Thank you – I’m so glad you like the blog! Danielle I definitely agree there should be litter police:)

  • Leah

So true! Amazing how easy and enticing mag and tv media make things look!!

  • http://www.missfitbliss.com joslyn

Yes it is Leah! One day I’ll make it look effortless – but I figure now’s the perfect time to make light of my mistakes;)

Hahaha, I love this post and your workout outfit! I love the little jacket, where is it from??

You should have seen how many times I would have to reshoot my videos prior to having a mac…..oh lordie, I was furious!

    xxoo

  • http://roastedrootsandpumpkinspice.wordpress.com Jean@RoastedRootsandPumpkinSpice

Haha, cute post! Before I got a Macbook, I used to have a old and huge IBM laptop that used to freeze randomly. I thought about smashing it with a hammer or throwing it out the window MANY times.

  • Leah

Haaaaa!!! Love this. Thanks for the laugh.

  • Paula

Haaaaa!!! Love this. Thanks for the laugh.

Haha.. this is great! I’ve always wondered about doing those types of workouts but I’m a bit too self conscious and I live in such a small town that I don’t really have anything to work with.

I fantasize about beating the crap out of my laptop all the time. Daily, in fact.

i’ve seen those “obstacle course” things set up along the beaches around here, i guess you go for a run, then stop to do some crunches and whatnot. (yeah….okay…) i don’t think i’d be embarrassed, i’m just too darn lazy :p

  • http://foodlovingpolarbear.com Anne@ Food Loving Polar Bear

Fun pictures :D and coooooool TOMS shoes. I also got a pair from a friend who went to US this summer and brought me a pair. I would love to buy a pair in every possible colour and style :)

Yes! My camera died and my blackberry has been my savior. Now I have to bum a camera off some poor guy :) .

These comments are hilarious! I’m glad to know that lots of us have a love/hate relationship with their electronics!

Kris, this jacket is from Lululemon. And Anne I looove my TOMS too. I have trouble taking them off;)
