In the Present MomentOctober 27, 2010
In this evening’s yoga class, the instructor was encouraging us to get into our back bends without fear. If anyone has ever done Bikram Yoga, you know that the back bend during the half moon series is one of the most intense asanas of all. It takes every bit of energy just to keep yourself breathing and working through the pose. In the midst of the struggle she announced a very interesting point: “You will never be more in the present than while in your back bend.” I wanted to scoff at this notion initially, but after doing a few while attempting to put together a grocery list in my head, I realized there was a lot of truth and wisdom in her words.
After class I wanted a bath so badly I could feel the warm tub water wrapped around me all the way home from the intense and long workout that is Bikram Yoga. I decided to create a wonderful atmosphere in the bathroom and really treat myself for working so hard in class over the past few days. The best part about this bathing experience is that I used the memory of working hard in the back bend to appreciate the present moment in the tub.
Question:
