Sweet DreamsDecember 26, 2010

I have come to realize in my 22 + years on this earth (ahem) that indulgence is not only a healthy part of any lifestyle, it’s a necessity. If anyone or thing tells you that sugar or cream or candy is completely off limits, you are going to immediately gravitate towards the shunned object like a moth to a flame. It’s primal. This is why I love eating my veggies and getting in my dark leafy greens regularly, but without a little dessert now and then, I can turn into one crabby woman.

This sweet potato cheesecake is one that I bake on special occasions for my boyfriend. He’s not much for gifts, just edibles. Clearly we’re a match. These are a few snapshots from my labor of love and tasting. If you’re interested in trying it out, you can find the recipe here

Homemade graham cracker crust. It's so good, I double the recipe to add a thick layer of amazing flavor to this cake.

Roasted, skinned, and pureed sweet potatoes.

Time to mix it up.

The cream reminds me of snow drifts. How fitting for the weather.

What can I say? I love dairy.

And sugar.

Spicing it up a bit.

Swiped from a clean spoon. Just to make sure I got the flavors balanced. I'm a thorough cook.

And to top off the dairy explosion...eggs.

Crust, meet filling. Filling, crust.

Finished product. I love the gorgeous cracks on the top of the cheesecake. They assure it's a homemade one.

QUESTION: What’s your take on dessert? Are you crabby without it?

I don’t really do dessert. I get a slight sweet tooth right after eating dinner, but a caramel rice cake is all I need. I could totally live without chocolate, but every once in a while, a cookie is a must ;-)

We don’t normally DO dessert, but I’m ALLOWED to do dessert if a craving arises. I’m with you, if you tell me that I can’t have dessert I hate you ad eat IT ALL – no limits. If is say to myself, “can you do this?” It’s really been helping. I lost a pound this week, through all the festivities, because I DID have sweet potato pie….but only one piece. :) Gooner hated it!!! She hates sweets AND meat. Seriously? Did you babysit her and convert her to a healthy vegetarian? Your baking looks delish!

I am not too much of a dessert kind of person, but when I do want some, I wish I could have some home-made cheesecake! ;-)

    sweet potato cheesecake…genius!

I agree 100%, indulging is all a part of a healthy lifestyle. It’s when you deprive yourself that things get out of control!

    and you’re SO young ;-)

I completely agree about indulging, you have to be a little bit bad to be any good at all :)

Ps. Love love love the colour of your nail polish!
