Green Thumbs UpDecember 28, 2010

I have never been one for gardening, but as each year passes, I tend to gravitate toward it as much I do knitting, baking, and kittens. I suspect it just comes with the territory of maturation. Good thing places like City Planter actually make striving for a green thumb a cool endeavor, as opposed to a Crazy Cat Lady destiny. What makes this place even neater is the fact that they carry many eco-friendly products, as well as kitchen counter herb gardens (one of my new retail crushes), and wall planters. I could go on and on listing all the benefits of exploring this oasis amidst concrete, but what makes it most amazing is how it reminds me that nurturing my own corner of nature is always within reach, no matter what my age or dwelling.

These railing planters are perfect for those looking for a chic and inexpensive way to inject some greenery into their balcony railings.

Gorgeous plants greet you at every turn in this store.

I totally fell for these amazingly saturated and vividly-colored planters.

Well-tended orchids.

Kitchen herb gardens.

Such a difficult choice.

Planters of all sizes and scales.

These tiny leaves grabbed my attention.

Tiny Agave plant.

Beautifully colored and textured.

Such a great experience.

QUESTION: Have you ever longed to garden your own little plot (or pot) of land? If so, what would you plant?

I had my own vegetable garden at the last house I lived at and LOVED it. I haven’t had the time to recreate it at our new house, but I’d like too. I also need more plants in my life indoors, and man alive those planters up there are GORGEOUS! Really makes me want to spend some time developing a little oasis in my own house!

Oh man, garden time! I can’t WAIT to have a backyard where I can plant a bunch of vegetables and herbs. I am thinking come springtime I will even brave the balcony garden at our apartment. It would be so much fun and so much cheaper than Whole Foods! :)

This is great! I am constantly trying to have a little “garden” of herbs for cooking. But I keep killing the plants :-( I guess I am not really green-fingered…

I would like to have a garden where I grow lots of leafy green vegetables and giant squashes.

I love to garden. We don’t have a large garden, but just enough space for 3 raised beds with smaller planting boxes in between for the herbs. I love being able to pick veggies straight from the garden to use in dinner.

I agree – I’m so excited to have a plot of land to grow things one day!

I want a garden. Texas was too hot and ridiculous! I’d be open to growing some stuff on our patio but I wonder if the rabbits would see it as one huge salad bar. Gah.
