Blissing in ActionApril 7, 2011

I’ve been off the grid for a few days since this week has been quite an adventure. I’m in the midst of some exciting projects – here’s a hint:

Experimenting with new batches of decadent-smelling skin scrubs! Please excuse the creeptastic grin but it's the best I could do for the moment.

I’ve been up until the wee hours of the morning after working all day and it feels good. I love how much new projects like creating new bath and body products can really inject a sense of adventure and creativity in me. Unfortunately, whenever my attention gets shifted from daily tasks I immediately start to feel badly for not being able to cram them all in. In this particular case, I’m referring to cooking healthy meals and working out this week.

Why am I sharing this with you? Because I think it’s important for us leaders of healthy lifestyles to remember that working out like a robot at the same time every day for several years is not what is going to make us supremely healthy. Neither would eating meticulously planned meals packed full of the perfect balance of foods of every day for the rest of our lives. That would just be ridiculously difficult and rigid if you ask me. What makes us healthy (both mentally and physically) is being able to indulge or be lazy sometimes, while taking care to make tiny adjustments to keep our path curving in the proper direction.

This means that sometimes we have time to create and enjoy a delicious healthy meal, but it also means that once in a while a few potato chips may the only snack that’s going to get us home without fainting from hunger. This does not make you a failure or a casualty tossed to the side of this path. It’s about making small changes when life does make other plans for us, and having faith that you will do your best every day to stay on course.

Since I’ve been MIA in health food stores, yoga studios, and my own website all week, I thought it would be nice to kick off my return with a little kicky pre-yoga morning face mask:

Take 1 tablespoon of cornstarch, 1 tablespoon of ground almonds,

and 1 tablespoon of honey

Add about a teaspoon of oil to the almond powder. I used safflower oil, but olive oil will get the job done too.

Now combine all ingredients with your hands.

Lahk so.

Now add about 1 tablespoon of water and gently scrub your face with the mixture. It didn't really smell like much, but I really enjoyed the sturdy feel of this scrub. Nice and invigorating in the morning. Anyone else spot the Latoya Jackson hairline? Totally not on purpose.

Your Healthiest Life: If you’ve found yourself in a bit of a health rut this week, don’t fret. Just pick up where you last left off with a big smile on your face. Believe me, you’ll feel better.

QUESTION: What little things do you do to help get back on track and out of a rut?

I usually put sugar in my scrubs because I find it’s the most abrasive. How well does almond meal work?

The almond meal is much gentler than sugar, but I scrubbed for a while so it definitely exfoliated. I think I’d be a bit disappointed if I’d paid money for it as a product in a store – I’d want something with more oomph to it. But for a sweet little morning pick-me-up, it was nice!
